Calverton
In 1589 William Lee of Calverton invented the stocking frame. The industry developed in Calverton and for the next 300 years this was a very important industry in Nottinghamshire. These days the village is a large dormitory village for Nottingham.
Calverton Folk Museum has Framework Knitting machines.
The Calverton Village website has a wealth of information about the community, make sure you read the section about Ann Webster, listed buildings and Iron Age settlement. There is an Arts Centre at Patchings Farm.
Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust have a nature reserve on Calverton Road.

Calverton walk 1 Moderate – 9 miles (15km). This one is a mix of history and habitats. Good views, woods, two hills and picturesque Oxton village.
