Great Sherwood Forest Wildlife Sites

Sherwood Forest has an amazing range of wildlife if you know where and how to look.  Over 150 square miles of mainly quick draining sandy soil with a wide variety of habits, ranging from ancient woodland and heath,  conifer forest, modern broadleaf plantations, wood grazing, lakes such as the Great Lake in at Welbeck, the river corridors of the  Leen, Rainworth Water, Maun, Meden, Poulter and Ryton, wetlands such as Oxton Bogs and along the river Poulter to the many of  the  former pit tips which have been restored with wildlife in mind.
